TŽ’s Steel Drawing Plant Is to Increase Production Capacity by 20% within Three Years
The construction of the new hall and facilities as well as the expansion of the existing production capacity by 17,000 tons is planned for the operation of the Třinecké železárny Steel Drawing Plant in Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště. The reason for ti is growing demand for drawn steel, which is mainly used in the automotive industry, but also in engineering, or manufacturing of screws, furniture and threaded rods.
The plant's production of 2016 peaked a record 87,000 tons of drawn bars in a three-shift operation with 230 employees. After the enlargement, their number will increase. The up-to-date drawing lines process high-quality rolled material and produce the final product from the coils and bars - the drawn rod in lengths from 3 to 7 meters. "Most of our production ends in the European markets in the automotive and mechanical engineering segment," explains the operations manager Petr Lapčík.
Before this happens, the rolled material in the form of a coil or rod passes by blasting, drawing, dividing, straightening and final inspection for surface defects. After inspection, the drawn bars are packed according to customer requirements and shipped by truck to their destinations. Regarding the capacity nowadays, the company does not have enough suitable space. "We have a free disposal capacity of about 20% of current production. That is why we are preparing a technological solution not only for its use but also for extending the product chain by introducing the following peeling and grinding technologies, including a completely new storage system with a fully automated rack stacker. This will allow us not only to produce and store more, but also to dispatch bigger amounts faster," explains the operation manager Petr Lapčík.
With rack stackers, storage capacity increases, speeds up truck clearance, and saves space necessary for additional downstream technologies that customers require. The company has already prepared a project for the construction of a new hall on the site of a recent concrete slab plant, where the new technologies will be deployed following the drawing technology. On an area of about 4,000 m˛, a peeling line, a grinding line, a line for the control of surface defects by the method of eddy currents and a new dividing line will be installed. All products will be packaged on the automatic packing line and stored by an automatic rack loader system.
The entire investment project should be completed during the first quarter of 2020 and amount to CZK 600 million. The number of employees should be increased from the current 230 to 300 after completing the entire project.
With more than 2.5 million tons of crude steel, Třinecké železárny is recently the biggest steel producer in the Czech Republic. The investment plan of Třinecké železárny has long been aiming at further increasing the added value of products as well as expanding the portfolio downstream. Finalizing processes increase the added value of all products with growing market utility especially in the automotive and engineering industries.
